Junior Associates

The Junior Associateship award has a six-year duration throughout which the Junior Associate is entitled to spend up to 180 days (with a maximum duration of 60 days for any single visit) at the Centre, with three fares paid.  A fare is granted for visits having a minimum duration of 30 days.  For each visit the Centre provides a daily living allowance.

When appointed, Junior Associates must not be older than 35, hold a Ph.D. and be faculty members.

Visits to ICTP

All visits under the Junior Associateship Scheme are subject to the availability of funds each year.

Junior Associates wishing to visit the Abdus Salam ICTP during the period of their award and requesting any kind of financial support from the Associateship Scheme, must request their visit online by 30 November of the year preceding the proposed visit.

In order to receive the invitation letter, all Associates must communicate the exact dates of their visit three months before the starting date indicated on their visit request.

Wherever possible, Junior Associates are encouraged to visit the ICTP outside the Summer, when there is a serious problem of overcrowding, unless there is an activity within their scientific interest during the above period. In Summer, the ICTP guesthouses may easily be fully booked.

At the end of their stay, Junior Associates will update their curriculum and publication list when presenting their end of visit report.

TRAVEL

Junior Associates are entitled to three fares during the six-year period of their award for three visits, which must have a minimum duration of 30 days (in order to obtain travel entitlement) and a maximum of 60 days, up to a total allocation of 180 days for the six-year period of the award.

Outside visits

Junior Associates may leave the ICTP to visit an external institute for up to 9 days with paid living allowance, provided his/her stay meets the minimum requirement of 30 days.

They should find financial support from their home or host institute to cover any supplementary and travel expenses resulting from such external visits. A detailed report should be brought to the Office of Associates and Federated Institutes after an external visit.
