The Physics of Weather and Climate Group is about to receive its first director and a new senior staff member. This spring, Filippo Giorgi, an Italian expatriate who has worked at the National Centre for Atmospheric Research in Colorado for the past 14 years, will be returning home to head the group. Fedor Mesinger, a Serbian-born scientist who is currently a senior researcher with the U.S. National Weather Service, will join the group as a visiting scientist. Their addition will set the stage for an expansion of weather- and climate-related research and training activities, a goal that the Centre's Scientific Council has urged the ICTP to take.
