NEUTRINO CONNECTIONS
"Now we feel certain of neutrinos oscillations. So, we feel certain that neutrinos have mass." Masatoshi Koshiba, founding father of the Superkamiokande experiment in Japan, made these comments in early July at a special lecture held in conjunction with ICTP's Fifth School on Non-Accelerator Particle Astrophysics and Summer School in High Energy Physics and Cosmology. The Superkamiokande experiment, which made headlines around the world, provided the most convincing evidence to date that neutrinos oscillate and therefore have a mass. "This result can mark the beginning of a new physics," Koshiba noted. "If our data is confirmed by other experiments, a radical change will be required both in the Standard Model and our understanding of the forces of the Universe."
