ECONOMICS AND PHYSICS
Choice under uncertainty, equilibrium in production economics, strategic behavior and game theory. These are just some of the topics that will be discussed at ICTP's first-ever School on the Mathematics of Economics to be held from 31 August to 25 September. The School will be directed by Michele Boldrin (Universidad Carlos III, Madrid), Andreu Mas-Colell (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) and Jose Alexandre Scheinkman (University of Chicago). This activity, which represents a new program for young, qualified mathematicians and statistical physicists, will seek to apply sophisticated mathematical tools and theories of physics to the field of economics. Kenneth J. Arrow, a Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, is scheduled to give two lectures on the "economics of public goods."
