CYBERLINKS: NIGERIA, NOW GHANA
The National Academy Network of Nigeria is using ICTP's facilities as a gateway to cyberspace. The trans-continental electronic link is the result of a two-year pilot project launched by the Centre's Networking and Radiocommunications Programme at Nigeria's Obafemi Awolowo University. The project's first stage culminated last fall with a workshop held in Nigeria in collaboration with the United Nations University (UNU). Centre staff are now expanding their efforts into Ghana. Two Ghana scientists, recently trained in computer networking in Trieste, plan to serve as instructors at an ICTP/UNU-sponsored workshop at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana this September. The project's ultimate goal is to build local capacity in computer networking by training native-born scientists, who, in turn, train others within their own countries and regions.
