More than 100 scientists, including 20 from Africa, participated in the ICTP's Winter College on Optics last month. Beyond the classroom instruction, the College offered members of the African Network on Optics a rare opportunity to meet. The Network was created seven years ago under the sponsorship of the Centre's Office of External Activities. In addition to ICTP's support, the College received financial help from the International Commission for Optics. The sessions took place at the ICTP's Main Building and the Elettra Synchrotron's Laser Laboratory.
