quot;WETTING"
Nobel Laureate Pierre-Gilles de Gennes (Physics 1991), Professor at the College de France and Director of the Ecole Superieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles, both in Paris, lectured on the peculiar sounding, but increasingly important, topic of "wetting" at the Adriatico Research Conference held at the ICTP from 15-18 June. The conference, organised jointly with the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) and the Department of Theoretical Physics of the University of Trieste, covered such topics as interactions and phase transitions between liquids and solids, a field with significant technological implications in materials science and biophysics.
