Efim Samoilovich Fradkin, Professor at the Lebedev Physical Institute in Moscow, and winner of the ICTP Dirac Medal in 1988, died on 25 May. Fradkin was a member of the Lebedev Physical Institute for more than 50 years, earning an international reputation for his studies on quantum field theory and quantum statistics. In addition to ICTP's Dirac Medal, Fradkin received the Soviet State Prize in 1953 and the Academy Tamm Prize in 1980. He was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and foreign member of the Accademia Pontaniana in Naples, Italy.
