The ICTP has agreed to host a three-year programme in Ecological Economics. In one of his last acts as ICTP director, Miguel Virasoro announced the launch of this initiative at a ceremony held at the University of Trieste on 16 May. Nobel Laureate Kenneth Arrow (Economics, 1972), the newest member of the ICTP Scientific Council, was in attendance. Under the agreement, the Beijer International Institute of Ecological Economics, in Stockholm, Sweden, will take the lead in arranging the research and training programmes.
