JANUARY / FEBRUARY ACTIVITIES

Following the annual winter break, ICTP has resumed its research activities. The Centre's inaugural on-campus event for 2004 is the Joint DEMOCRITOS-ICTP School on Continuum Quantum Monte Carlo Methods to be held from 12 to 23 January. Beginning on 2 February, the Centre will host a two-week-long Winter College on Interferometry and Applications in Modern Physics, and from 9 to 27 February, ICTP will organize the School on Digital Radio Communications for Research and Training in Developing Countries. An up-to-date 2004 Scientific Calendar may be browsed throughout the year via the ICTP Home Page at www.ictp.it. On 26 January, Rudolph A. Marcus, Arthur Noyes Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, will give the colloquium "Strange Isotope Effects in Ozone Formation and Implications for the Earliest Solar System" in the Main Lecture Hall at 16:00 hrs. Marcus won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1992 "for his contributions to the theory of electron transfer reactions in chemical systems."
