UNESCO Director-General To Visit ICTP
The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Koïchiro Matsuura, will visit ICTP on Tuesday, 17 May, to participate in the 2004 ICTP Prize ceremony. The hour-long event will begin at 9:30 in the Main Lecture Hall. Matsuura will speak at 10:00 and present the ICTP Prize to Bernardo Gabriel Mindlin, professor of physics, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Other dignitaries scheduled to participate in the event include Misir Mardanov, Minister of Education in Azerbaijan; C.N.R. Rao, President, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS); Renato Angelo Ricci, Honorary President, Italian Physical Society; and Victorio Maria José Taccetti, Argentina’s Ambassador in Rome. Following the ceremony, Matsuura will meet with ICTP’s director and the heads of the Centre’s scientific groups, as well as the president and executive director of TWAS, to learn more about the organizations’ activities.
