Former UNESCO Assistant Director-General dies
Abdul Razzak Kaddoura, former Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences at UNESCO, died on 30 July. Born in Syria, he obtained his PhD in nuclear physics from Bristol University, UK, in 1961. He was professor of physics at Damascus University, of which he became rector in 1974. In 1976 he was appointed Assistant Director-General at UNESCO, a post which he held until 1988. He authored several books for Damascus University and publications and articles on nuclear physics of high energies published in scientific reviews in several countries.
Kaddoura visited ICTP on several occasions, in particular to attend the meetings of the Scientific Council as representative of UNESCO.
