Dr. Viviane Reding, Member of the European Commission, Information Society and Media, visited ICTP on Saturday 12 April. She was accompanied by Dr. Robert Klapisch, formerly of CERN, who was the organizer of “Sharing Knowledge across the Mediterranean”, a NATO workshop hosted at ICTP in November 2006. Commissioner Reding used her time to learn about the ICTP activities in Africa, especially on ICT, and expressed interest in potential partnership towards curbing the digital divide in the continent. Plans are in the making to define a working project.
